About Nike
Nike's history begins in 1964, when Phil Knight, a track and field athlete, and his coach, Bill Bowerman, founded Blue Ribbon Sports. Their original idea was to import affordable athletic shoes from Japan. In 1971, the company changed its name to Nike, inspired by the goddess of victory in Greek mythology, and introduced the iconic "Swoosh" logo, which was designed by Carolyn Davidson.
